CALABARZON is one of the regions of the Philippines which is designated as Region IV-A. Its regional capital is Calamba City in Laguna. This region is made up of of five provinces which are  Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, and Quezon. The letters of it's provinces make up the name of this region, even though they are not in standard sequince.

This region is located on the southwest side on the island of Luzon and is south and west of Metro Manila. The Calabarzon region is the second most densely populated of all the regions in the Philippines.

The province of Cavite in the region of Calabarzon is where Philippine independence was held by the first Philippine president, Emilio Aguinaldo on June 12, 1898.

Peoples from Batangas, Cavite and Laguna were part of those who first revolted against the Spanish to gain freedom and were subsequently placed under martial law in 1896, this was the start of the Philippine Revolution. The national heros of the Philippines, Dr. Jose P. Rizal was born in Calamba, Laguna and Apolinario Mabini, was born in Batangas. Three of the rays of the sun on the Philippine national flag are dedicated to the provinces of Batangas, Cavite and Laguna (the other five represent Bulacan, Manila, Nueva Ecija, Pampanga and Bataan)

The eight primary rays of the sun found in the Philippine Flag represent the first eight provinces (Batangas, Bulacan, Cavite, Laguna, Manila, Nueva Ecija, Pampanga, and Bataan) that sought independence from Spain and were placed under martial law by the Spaniards at the start of the Philippine Revolution in 1896.
