The Island of Marinduque has two seasons, one being the dry season (November through February) and the other being the rainy season (June through October) and  March through May is a mixture of both.

It is a heart-shaped island situated about 18 km from the main island of Luzon. It is 960 square km in area and is the thirteenth largest island in the Philippine.

Agriculture, Handicrafts, Fishing and Tourism are the major sources of the Marinduque economy.

The legend of Marinduque is that it was named after two lovers, Marina and Garduke, Marina's father who was the local chieftain, did not approve of this love affair and ordered Garduke to be beheaded However before the sentance was carried out, the couple sailed out to sea and drowned themselves, thus forming the island now called Marinduque.

During the Philippine-American War, Battle of Pulang Lupa took place on Marinduque, where Filipino soldiers defeated a larger better trained force of Americans.

In 1942, the Japanese Imperial forces landed in Marinduque and in 1945 in the Second World War, American and Philippine Commonwealth troops liberated Marindeque
