Negros Occidental is a province of the Philippines located in the Western Visayas region. Its capital is Bacolod City and is situated in the northwest section of Negros island.

Negros Occidental produces over half the sugar yield of the Philippines and has the world's largest integrated sugar mill and refinery, it is commonly known as The Sugar Bowl of the Philippines boasting a count of 12 sugar mills.

When the Spaniards landed on the island in 1565, they named it "Negros" because of the dark-skinned natives who inhabited the place. A rebellion in 1898 defeated of the Spaniards and the name was changed to the Republic of Negros.

When the Japanese landed in the province in 1942, civilian and military leaders in Negros Occidental refused to surrender and organized a free government with guerrilla forces under their command. In 1945 These forces along with Filipino and Commonwealth forces defeated the Japanese and liberated Negros Occidental. Between 1901 up to the 1930s. Negros Occidental was under the American occupation along with the rest of the Philippines.

Negros Occidental is one of the most progressive and largely developed provinces of the Philippine.
