Pangasinan is one of the provinces of the Republic of the Philippines. The provincial capital is Lingayen. Pangasinan is located on the west central area of the island of Luzon along the Lingayen Gulf. The province is a major producer of salt in the Philippines

Pangasinan became a Spanish colonial province 1611, which comprised of the territories of Zambales, some areas of La Union and Tarlac with Lingayen as the capital of the provin

Andres Malong, a native chief,  liberated the province from Spanish rule in 1660 whereupon the people declared him King of Pangasinan. Pangasinan armies attempted to liberate the neighboring provinces of Pampanga and Ilocos, but were repelled by a Spanish-led coalition of loyalist tribal warriors and mercenaries. In February 1661, the newly independent Kingdom of Pangasinan again fell to the Spanish.

1762 saw the people of Pangasinan proclaimed independence after a rebellion led by Juan de la Cruz Palaris overthrew Spanish rule there. The Pangasinan revolt was sparked by news of the fall of Manila to the British. 1763 after the end of the Seven Years' War between Britain, France and Spain, the Spanish colonial forces again attacked and in 1765, Juan de la Cruz Palaris was captured and Pangasinan again came under Spanish rule.

Japanese forces landed on the shores of Pangasinan in December 1941 and so started the Japanese occupation of the Philippines. In 1945 American troops joined by Pangasinese guerrillas and the Philippine Commonwealth troops to freed Luzon from the Japanese.
