Siquijor is an island province of the Philippines located in the Central Visayas region. To the northwest of Siquijor are the islands of Cebu and Negros, to the northeast is Bohol and to the south, across the Bohol Sea is the island of Mindanao. The capital of Siquijor is also called Siquijor and is the third smallest province in the Philippines.

The island was first sighted by the Spaniards in 1565 who named it Isla del Fuego meaning island of fire, this was because of the swarms of fireflies which inhabited Siquijor gave off such a powerful glow that the island seemed to be on fire.

On 1942, Japanese Imperial forces landed on Siquijor, but it was again liberated in 1945 by Philippine Commonwealth troops after the Battle of Siquijor.
